The Stone File: January 2015

the stone file x the darling downtown part deux

Hello my loves!

It's time for part deux of my Valentine's Day collaboration with Alex Beall from The Darling Downtown (here)! If you missed our first look, check the archives for Monday's post (1.26.15). For this more laid-back look, we wanted to try out casual Valentine's Day outfits since we know that not everyone likes to get out in the Valentine's Day madness!

Anyone that knows me knows that I'm not what you would call a "casual" person. I rarely wear jeans, I own maybe a couple of t-shirts and you will not find a single pair of tennis shoes in my closet so, needless to say, styling today's "casual" look was more than a little challenging for me (i.e. the giant pink shag coat). Anyways, I tried my very best to interpret my own version of casual in the photos below.

I hope you have enjoyed our little VDAY stylings! I would love to hear your feedback on this collaboration and if you would like to see more like this in the future!

beauty must-haves

Happy Tuesday!

I don't know about you, but I'm one of those girls that don't use the same product for too long. While I have used a lot of beauty products that I love, I can't help but want to try everything new that comes out and since that seems to happen daily, I'm constantly changing my mind about what my "favorite" products are.

Lately, I have become utterly and completely obsessed with a few products -- from skincare to makeup -- that have become staples in my beauty routine and that I will never, EVER be without. When you love something so much, you want to tell everyone about it so I felt compelled to compile a list of my new friends that will, without a doubt, become old ones.

The Charcoal Konjac Cleansing Sponge -- my newest obsession and my most prized beauty tool! This little gem was in my stocking last Christmas and I have used it everyday (sometimes twice) since. How this little sponge can magically perfect your pores is beyond me, but it's incredible. It's suitable for even the most sensitive skin while balancing the skins pH, stimulating blood flow and promoting cell growth. Oh, and it's $10. Find yours here.
I use my Clarisonic AND the Charcoal Sponge every single day, but I only use my cleanser with my Clarisonic (here). Clinician's Complex Foaming Gel Cleanser (here) and Facial Toner (here) are great for anyone, particularly if you suffer from the occasional break-out from time to time. The cleanser is very gentle, but contains Alpha Hydroxy Acids which help to exfoliate the skin while the Facial Toner contains Glycolic Acid for gentle exfoliation and Hyaluronic Acid to restore moisture and youthfulness.
Okay, if you are looking for a new foundation you HAVE to try the Jane Iredale BB Cream (here). I always always go back to this because it gives you a beautiful glowy, dewy finish with full-coverage that is still light AND it contains a 25 SPF.  I can't rave about this product enough -- you just have to try it to see how amazing it is for yourself! I wear the shade "bb5" and I have been told that it's the most popular shade, so keep that in mind if you decide to order this little miracle.
If you are a person with eyebrows you need the Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade (here). I never thought my eyebrows looked that bad until I started using this creamy brow correcter and saw how good my brows could look. There's also a wide variety of colors -- 11 shades! -- to choose from so you will be sure to find the perfect one for you!
Now to my favorite type of product -- lipstick! I'm a bright lipstick girl through and through because it's so much fun to play around with and can completely change your look. Stila "Beso" (here) is the most perfect red for ALL skintones -- it looks absolutley beautiful on everyone and when it says "stay all day liquid lipstick," it stays ALL DAY...and all night...and most of the next day. If you're looking for a lip color that stays put no matter what, this is for you. Speaking of lip colors that don't move, the Too Faced Melted Long Wear Lipsticks (here) are to. die. for. First of all, they come in the most darling, flirtatious shades that go on super velvety smooth with the staying power of a stain. My favorite shades so far are "Melted Coral", "Melted Frosting", and "Melted Candy". If you're a classic gal, you'll LOVE "MAC Red" (here) from MAC Cosmetics.

Hello and Happy (almost) Valentine's Day!

Ah, Valentine's Day. Dim the lights, cue the violins and prepare for superfluous amounts of milk chocolate (yes, I said deserve it) consumption. BUT, before all of that romantic goodness, it's equally important to dress up super fancy-like and take silly photos with friend and fellow blogger, Alex Beall, of The Darling Downtown!

Luckily, I only pretend to enjoy eating dark chocolate (milk it up, baby) and I just happen to have a darling friend named Alex to take silly photos with.

Today's look is part one of a two-part series of Valentine's Day looks styled by Alex and I (so tempted to say "Ani"). We decided to style dressy and casual looks to show how versatile dressing for Valentine's Day can be! Needless to say, for today's post we have styled our dressiest, most festive, swoon-worthy looks that are both romantic and playful.

I'm wearing my favorite Basically Me dress that I have shared between Christmas and Valentine's Day because it just has that flirtatious effervescence that I associate with both, particularly Valentine's Day! The shoes that I'm wearing from BCBGeneration make me especially happy for the sole fact that it's slightly unexpected while still looking like they were made for this look. To address my unseasonable tan, I owe that 100% to Sally Hansen Leg Makeup (here) -- it is literally a life saver when you're basically see-through as a result of being so pale.

Another reason that I was excited to work with Alex -- aside from the fact that she's adorable and perfect -- is that we have very different styles. I have noticed that a lot of women will try to mimic the style of others, even if that look doesn't suit their personal tastes. For this collaboration, you can see that Alex and I have completely different styles, but they both work beautifully for who we are as individuals. I wanted to showcase our differences in the photos that follow. While we are very different, we share a common love for style, which is boundless.

I hope you have as much fun browsing these photos as we did taking them!

I'm all about Alex in this darling flamingo sweater, tulle midi skirt AND the most precious black bow pumps I've ever seen! Visit her blog (here) for more of her outfit details!
